PRODUCER: GLENYS ROWEGlenys Rowe began her career in film in 1979 working with the radical UK distribution company The Other Cinema, distributing, amongst others, the films of Costas Gavras, Jean Luc Godard as well as the emergent women's cinema of filmmakers like Sally Potter and Chantal Akerman.
She returned to Australia in 1980 to take up a position with the Creative Development Branch of the Australian Film Commission. After completing this contract, she commenced as Exhibition Manager with the Australian Film Institute, programming the AFI's three cinemas as well as the six National Film Theatre venues. She later did some pioneering work with Ronin Films, theatrically releasing the massively successful documentaries First Contact and Cane Toads at the Sydney Opera House.
The Richard Lowenstein cult hit Dogs In Space (1987) was her first film as producer, followed by a number of documentaries for both the ABC and the BBC, including Bodywork and The Good Woman of Bangkok with Dennis O'Rourke.
In 1996 she produced the acclaimed Australian feature film Idiot Box.
She met the painter Davida Allen in 1990 and commenced work on Feeling Sexy, which will be released internationally by Beyond Films at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999. They hope to make another two films together.
